Hello, ο»ΏI'm LanΓ©!

about me as THE PHOTOGRAPHERο»Ώ

For the past (almost) 10 years I’ve been lucky enough to make what I love my job.

What started as a hobby ‘snapping pics of cute dogs and pretty views’ soon extended to the role of ‘event documentarian/group-photo taker’ (which I’m forever thankful for, there now being hardly any photo-evidence of my mid-teen style mishaps). Jokes aside, this was when my focus began shifting to photography of people. People living for the moment. People wearing their heart on their sleeve. People with stories to tell. People in love.

The option of photography as a profession appeared in my life when I was at a crossroads and needed it most. After completing my degree and starting a career in academic psychology, it turned out that my biggest passion - photography - was actually more fulfilling for me. I’m sometimes asked ‘why the tangent’, or ‘how, they’re completely different worlds’, but I honestly find most elements surprisingly similar. Perception and emotional expression; culture and family dynamics; observation and documentation. Yes, it’d swapped a world of science for one of art, logbooks for memory cards and Matlab for Photoshop, but the fundamentals were the same.

Being one of those people that’s finds themselves way more comfortable behind the camera. I know all too well that feeling of dread as you uncomfortably stare down the barrel of a lens - you suddenly forget how to move your face and then your lip decides to do that weird twitchy thing. That doesn’t mean you don’t want nice photos of yourself, you just hate the awkward posing and would rather be unaware of them being taken. This was and is the basis for my work.

... I photographed my first Lane & Grey wedding, the service at a quaint village church and reception a few miles away in the most beautiful Edwardian hotel. The Bride and Groom were childhood sweethearts, huge fans of musical theatre, cacti-enthusiasts and determined to incorporate all their passions into their day. It was the most joyful day, beautifully personal with a Sondheim classic as the first dance and terrarium centre-pieces. Quiet simply it was incredibly fun, and I’ve been hooked ever since.

I shoot every aspect of a wedding day, big and small, in my relaxed, documentary style. I let things flow naturally never forcing a moment, simply capturing the unique atmosphere and personalities that shape the day. I immerse myself in the laughter and emotion, snaping away and documenting it all - even those fleeting moments you weren’t there to see. It’s so important to me that everyone has an amazing time, and feels completely at ease, so I try to blend in with the action rather than be that person in the corner with a big camera.

My job is to tell a heartfelt story of your special day, and there’s no better story to tell than a love story.

I know, cheesy right? But it couldn’t be more true.
